Boštjan Gombač and the Big Band RTV Slovenija - Iucundus

The new CD release Iucundus by Boštjan Gombač and the Big Band RTV Slovenija is a musically varied and cosmopolitan project, as much urban as it is traditional.
Boštjan Gombač, one of those musicians who, regardless of the music genre and the musicians he shares the stage with, cultivate their own recognizable and unique sound. As a multiinstrumentalist and composer, he is at home with many genres, such as jazz, ethno, classical and pop music.
The Iucundus project crosses even more of these musical borders with the cooperation of the Big Band RTV Slovenija, drummer Nino Mureškič and conductor Lojze Krajnčan.
The introductory composition Brinje displays a certain subtleness and a feeling of freedom of form. Gombač brings to life the chirping of birds, the rustling of the wind and the sounds of the rainforest with a gradual inclusion of individual musical instruments and instrumental groups, including tin whistles and other Irish flutes, Irish drum, bells as well as other tools, even his own head – any object can be used as a musical instrument.
The album is a multilayered sound experience, which includes improvisations. The melodic baseline is accompanied by drumming; the brass and wind instrument section enriches the color spectrum of the whole, to which yet more variation is added by performances on the guitar and piano. Gombač's performance, which includes fragile sound vibrations on wind instruments, is artfully and expressively strengthened by the Big Band RTV Slovenija, without stealing the limelight from the soloist.
