The Ministry of Culture and the former Ministry for Information Society have sponsored a three-year project to finance the selection of parties to carry out the reinstatement of the Slovene Music Information Center, which will present a basic but broad point of access for information about Slovene musicians, music and musical legacy as well as current activities in the field of music. We at the SIMIC Society applied for permission to carry out the project and were chosen to receive the mandate to see it through.

Although SIMIC is currently in the starting phase of work, our aim is to become a central information hub in Slovenia which would systematically care for the promotion of Slovene music and musicians both in Slovenia and internationally, as well as make possible wider access for the general public to all types of musical informational content regarding the field of music in Slovenia, while becoming a lever for the development and use of music-related digital content. Special focus is given to the use of and advantages provided by the internet.

The purpose of the project is the consolidation of information from the field of musical authorship, performance and interpretation and other musical activities in Slovenia - from the past as well as the present – making comprehensive information easily accessible to a wider public, enriching the presence of music in Slovenia.

Objectives and tasks of the Society

creation and maintenance of a database of Slovene musicians from all time periods and styles

creation and maintenance of a database of Slovenian musical institutions and related non-government organisations that operate on either on a professional or amateur level,

creation and maintenance of a database of the Slovenian musical legacy,

creation and maintenance of a database of Slovenian folk music

creation of a database for published Slovene sheet music and books, as well as other publications related with music

creation of a database for audio and video recordings (compact discs, DVD and VHS releases) which feature Slovene artists

creation and maintenance of a database with the co-operation of artists encompassing Slovenian musical life and its supporters

creation of a database for Slovenian musical archives

creation of other databases

publication of sheet music, recordings, books and periodicals as well as other printed material in the field of musical activity

promotion of Slovene music and musicians both locally and internationally

to make possible the introduction of new works by Slovene composers and to support a balance between cultural transmission and contemporary artistry

organisation of expert advice, including conferences and symposiums as well as other educational activities in the field of music

operate under an “open door” policy for the general public (including the mediation of information through our web site as well as physical access to our office and our knowledgeable staff and colleagues

programming and business co-operation with all mediators and artists active in Slovene music life

co-operation with related organisations in the international cultural arena

to make possible public access to programs and information about musical artists who are physically inaccessible

to make possible concert activity and the mediation of SIMIC members both to the Slovene and international cultural public in accordance with existing agreements and the particular requirements of stated intentions and objectives of the Society.
