The Golden Mask Award goes to Carmina Slovenica
Carmina Slovenica's music theatre production When the mountain changes its clothing isthe winner in the category »The Best Foreign Production Presented in Russia in 2015«.
The music of When the mountain changes its clothing was conceived by composer Heiner Goebbels and commissioned by the Choregie artistic director and conductor Karmina Šilec. Goebbels drew inspiration for the score from thematic motifs and musical materials of the Resian folk song Da Pa Ćanynu, reflecting on the seasonal changes on the mountain of Kanin.
Since its premiere in 2012, there were multiple stagings of the production in Slovenia and at festivals and venues around the world (Festival d’Automne in Paris, Holland festival, Melbourne Festival among others).
The Russian Golden Mask Festival lends its stage to all genres of performing arts (opera, drama, music theatre, operetta, musicals and modern dance) and regularly hosts performances that are featured in the most prominent Russian theatres, including the Bolshoi and the Mariinsky Theatre. In March 2015, Carmina Slovenica participated in the festival's new CONTEXT program, staging selected foreign productions that further develop theatre diversity and put a spotlight on the reality of theatre. Carmina Slovenica's performance won the Golden Mask Award, thus finding itself in the company of another award-winning performance, Boris Godunov by the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre. According to Goebbels, charged images rise from the exceptional energy of the young performers of Carmina Slovenica and reflect social transformation: the fast political, social and cultural changes in their native region.
The Golden Mask Awards are given in over 30 categories (for best production, best acting, directing, conducting, choreography, set design etc.); candidates for the award are the prominent opera, ballet and theatre houses, such as the Bolshoi and Mariinsky Theatres, the Maly Drama Theatre, the Alexandrinsky Theatre and many others.
