The Age of Chaos from Cene Resnik’s Free Stellar trio (Cene Resnik – tenor saxophonist, Marko Lasič – drummer and percussionist, Giogrio Pacorig – pianist and keyboard player, feat. Special guest Rob Mazurek - cornetist) is one of the few derivations of the homegrown musicians, steeped in the tradition of free jazz improvisation, which only takes up composing at the live encounter of its members in a single, almost an hour-long piece of recorded improvisation. After the initial conversance, the band erupts into a dramatic, collective overflow, before it dissolves into many dialogues.
Changes in dynamics flow spontaneously and organically, be with occasional taking of the initiative within the quartet as well as with gradual withdrawals, where group improvisation gives space to individual, solo contributions.
The Age of Chaos is one of those albums that, despite the absence of pre-defined compositional elements, reveal fresh layers of a unique stage encounters and is more than just an instantaneous record of the state of minds of certain individuals. And if its dynamic is to be found in tiny fractures, then collectivity also turns out to be anything but a climb and a rush to its climax.
