Bojan Adamič was born in 1912 in Ribnica in the region of Dolenjska and died in 1995 in Ljubljana. A versatile musician, he was active in the cultural sphere of Slovenia as well as in other republics of the former Yugoslavia. He was a prolific composer and thus particularly important for the Slovene cultural heritage, since he left behind a rich collection of musical works written for various musical ensembles and different genres as well as scores for more than 200 Slovene and foreign films. He wrote an important body of work for Slovene wind orchestras. Adamič was also a pioneer of the Slovene jazz scene and remains an icon of Slovene big band, brass band and film music. This year's centenary of his birth will be celebrated with many events throughout Slovenia.

The Association of Slovene Brass Bands has prepared one of the main projects of this year, which it has named the Year of Bojan Adamič. It has called on all Slovene brass bands to perform at least one of Adamič’s compositions in the first half of the year, named Adamič's Spring. With the closing of Adamič’s Spring in October, the Band Music Day will take place in Maribor and will include a symposium on the life and work of Bojan Adamič, an exhibition and concerts.

To celebrate Adamič’s opus, Ljubljana will host the International Evening of Chansons within the framework of the Festival La Vie en Rose as well as the opening concert of the Slovene Musical Days with the Symphonic Orchestra and the Big Band RTV Slovenia. In September, the Slovene Cinematheque will offer a one-month retrospective of films, for which Bojan Adamič wrote the scores. Furthermore, the Society of Slovene Composers is planning to publish sheet music of his pop songs as well as a re-release of a cd with his symphonic works.
