40th Anniversary of Maestro Uroš Lajovic

Uroš Lajovic's professional career spanning 40 years was celebrated with a concert in the Slovenian Philharmonic. The concert featured works by Mozart and Mahler under the direction of conductor Uroš Lajovic.

Internationally renowned conductor Uroš Lajovic studied composition under professor Danilo Švara in Ljubljana and conducting in Ljubljana, Salzburg and Vienna. In 1972 he became assistant conductor of the Slovene Philharmonic and was later resident conductor until 1991. During this time he was also directing the RTV Ljubljana Chamber Orchestra (1974–1977), and later the Zagreb Symphony Orchestra (1979–1981). He performed with orchestras across Europe and the USA and has been a regular guest of Far East orchestras in recent years (South Korea, Taiwan, China, Singapore and Hong Kong).

During his career, Lajovic has led more than 60 orchestras and is the recipient of many awards: two Student Prešeren Awards, an award at the conductor's competition Guido Cantelli in Milan, the award of the High School for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Golden Bird Award and the Prešeren Fund Award. He established the chamber ensemble Slovenicum in 1988 and since 1989 has been teaching a conducting class at the High School for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna (as full professor since 1991 and as professor emeritus since 2012); in 2010 he also became a full professor at the Academy of Music in Zagreb.
