The Balloon Catcher is a solo album of double-bass player Jošt Drašler. It contains nine improvised compositions displaying a carefully rounded and coherent musical entity. The compositions have a unique narrative signature, characterized by a rich musical structure and sound texture.
In many aspects the album reveals the complexity and sophistication of Drašler’s improvisational skills. Abundant, carefully assembled and captured sound material uncovers technical perfection of a highly skilled musician and at the same time reflects his intellectual broadness. This way, improvised music making is once again firmly placed among the most sensitive and most eloquent music commentaries regarding the situation and relations of the current social as well as individual life.
