Slovenian experimental music compilation – first release in the Czech Republic
SIGIC released a compilation of Slovenian experimental music in the Czech Republic in cooperation with the Czech Music Information Centre from Prague (Hudební informační středisko, o.p.s.) and its printed music magazine His Voice, within the framework of the joint project Minstrel, which receives EU support. The compilation was released under the name Slovinská eksperimentální hudba as a supplement to the most recent edition of the music magazine.

This particular edition of the magazine also featured an essay with the same title as the compilation. The essay was written by Luka Zagoričnik (head editor of SIGIC's online music magazine Odzven - Echo), who prepared the selection of musicians and bands featured in the compilation. His selection includes a wide variety of contemporary works underpinning a heterogeneous array of different sound practices, which are today united under the often misused designation of »experimental music«. The latter has much deeper roots in Slovenia, though the selection focuses on music being made here and now, as seen through the individual prism of someone who has been monitoring the developments on this particular music scene for many years. The selection gives voice to different approaches, aesthetics and sound practices, from free improvisational playing, which has dramatically increased over the years and has tried the waters of international sound experimentation, to experimental noise rock, sound art, electro acoustic music and, finally, to the incorporation of experimental principles into pop music, poetry and other genres. The compilation includes some pieces that have not been released to date. Many record companies cooperated in this release: Botanic Records, EatThis Production, LUD Literatura, Playdate Music, Zavod Atol, Zavod Sploh / L'innomable, as well as individual authors and artists.
With this release, SIGIC continues its mission and is fulfilling its promise to present different facets of Slovenian music production to international audiences. SIGIC started on this road with the releases of compilations Jazz Slovenia and Etno Slovenia in 2011. A Slovenian-English version of the compilation is in the making and will be released in the beginning of next year.
