Successful participation of SIGIC at the Slovenian Music Week

From Wednesday to Sunday the festival's myriad workshops, concerts and conferences attracted many music lovers.

The first Slovene Music Week was held at different venues in Ljubljana from March 21 to 25. The festival featured concerts, workshops, conferences as well as competitive events.

SIGIC also took part in the Slovenian Music Week. On March 23 it organised a legal workshop and a presentation of collective organisations that provide support for musicians. The workshop was intended mostly for musicians at the start of their careers and for all others who wanted to learn more about the basics of copyright law, about the Slovenian organizations which manage the collective rights as well as about the services provided by SIGIC.  The workshop was conducted by Barbara Švrljuga (SIGIC), lawyer Urša Chitrakar and the representatives of SAZAS (Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers for Copyright Protection in Slovenia), IPF (Institute for Protection of Phonogram Performers and Producers Rights) and UIL (Slovenian Intellectual Property Office). On the basis of her extensive experience with the copyright law, lawyer Urša Chitrakar presented concrete examples of the application of the law. The representatives of SAZAS and IPF, organizations whose basic task is to implement the copyright for musicians, presented their working methods and the manner of their cooperation with musicians. The workshop was concluded with a lecture by dr. Jurij Žurej on copywright law and its issues. The lecture of Urša Chitrakar will be shortly available on the website of SIGIC.

The festival was also attended by foreign partners – representatives of different festivals, who offered invitations to some of the performing artists. Thus Dandelion Children were invited to participate at the festival Exit and  The Toronto Drug Bust at the Terraneo and Sziget Festival. The group LONDON will perform at the Waves Vienna Conference and Festival.

The Slovenian Music Week festival has earned recognition as an important event and has attracted interest from the performers and the public comprised of professional as well as amateur musicians and music lovers. They all have one thing in common: they eagerly anticipate the next Slovenian Music Week!
