Summer in Ljubljana’s Old Town
June 1 - August 24 2011

The Society for the Preservation of Ljubljana’s Old Town, together in cooperation with the concert agency Imago Sloveniae, are organising the international festival Summer in Ljubljana’s Old Town. The event, now in its 30th consecutive year, will include a number of classical and jazz concerts, the main part of the programme being given over to classical music performances. Spanish guitarist Ricardo Gallén will perform and the Ljubljana Vocal Academy will present a concert performance of the baroque opera Dido and Aeneas. Guest artists of the festival include three string quartets: the Dominant Quartet from Russia, the Hungarian Accord Quartet and, to give the festival’s closing performance, the Apollon Quartet with guest clarinettist Claudio Mansutti. A special focus will be given to talented young musicians who will appear on the festival as part of the Young Talents series.
The third edition of the “Jazz on Gornji Trg” cycle, which offers jazz performances on Gornji Square on Fridays and will feature Slovenian and non-Slovenian jazz acts, will also take place in the scope of this year’s festival. The jazz cycle opened Friday, June 24, with Nina Strnad and a quintet featuring Jure Pukl.
You can find the festival programme (in Slovenian) on Imago Sloveniae’s website.
