A promising operatic career awaits Monika Bohinec

After completing her studies at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Monika Bohinec began her career with great roles in the Mannheim National Theatre and the Slovene National Opera and Ballet Theatre. Among her role debuts are Carmen, Sara di Nottingham (Roberto Devereux), Laura and Cieca (La Gioconda), Maddalena (Rigoletto), Giulietta (The Tales of Hoffmann) and Ulrica (A Masked Ball).  She also performed in Iolanta alongside the world renowned Anna Netrebko during a tour of Europe with the Slovene Philharmonic.

In 2011, she became ensemble member of the Vienna State Opera , where she is currently successfully engaged in altogether more than twenty roles in operas, such as Masked Ball, La Traviata, Madame Butterfly, Boris Godunov and Andrea Chénier. During her first Vienna season, she received two prestigious invitations by two main opera institutions: the Salzburg Festival  (19 July – 1 September)  for an opera role marking the Wagner jubilee and the Teatro alla Scala in Milan for the role of Ulrica. Contractual obligations with the Vienna State Opera prevented Bohinec from performing in Milan; however, she is currently engaged to sing Magdalena under the direction of Italian conductor Daniele Gatti in six stagings of Wagner’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at the Salzburg Festival.
