The Slovene National Theatre Opera and Ballet Maribor on tour in Japan

The Opera and Ballet ensemble of the Slovene National Theatre Maribor has embarked on a one-month tour performing Bizet's Carmen in Japan.

Between 7 June and 2 July the Japanese tour will encompass 21 performances at venues in 18 Japanese cities. Philippe Arlaud's staging of Bizet's Carmen will feature the Slovene Opera and Ballet ensemble under the direction of Loris Voltolini. The opening performance of the tour took place on 7 June in Sapporo and will be followed by performances in Aomori, Sendai, Morioki, Matsudo, Tokorozawa, Yokosuka, Musashino, Tokio, Chigasaki, Ina, Hamamatsu, Tsu, Nagoya, Osaka, Toyama, Hiroshima and Fukuoka.

The title role of Carmen will be performed by mezzo-sopranos Guadalupe Barrientos, Oksana Volkova and Vesselina Kasarova. Singers Aljaž Farasin, Javier Tomé Fernández and Jevgenij Akimov will take on the role of Don José, while the role of Escamillo will be performed by Jože Vidic and Jacques-Greg Belobo, and the role of Micaëla by Andreja Zakonjšek Krt and Petya Ivanova.
