Brgs - Free DBeat

Free DBeat, the new album by Jaka Berger - Brgs, explores the realms of electroacoustic and experimental music and tries to circumvent some of the most established percussion conventions by drumming at the edge of the metronome's beat. Brgs defined his approach to creating music as punk-like, imbued with the spirit of free thought and unadulterated inspiration.
The album Free DBeat features only two instruments: a modular synthesizer and drums, which are intimately interwoven in the musical texture. Both instruments interact with each other in an experimental freestyle fashion, exploring different facets of rythm, which they treat as musical material in its own right. The album succeeds in revealing an autonomous and organic development of unconventional musicianship. The tracks feature excerpts of Slovenian TV news broadcasts, thus giving the album a more semantic twist. FreeDBeat clearly attempts to bridge the long-standing Cartesian divide between the sensual and the intellectual. Furthermore, it synthesises and combines new tone timbres with old ones, sometimes alluding to the instrumental combination of drums and the barrel organ.
