Franc Kosem - Reflections
ZKP RTV Slovenia
2016

The relatively new CD release Reflections explicitly reveals the birth of the trumpet as a solo instrument, which only happened with the repertoire of the 20th century. Trumpet-player Franc Kosem, who is the trumpeter of the Slovenian Philharmonic, performs a hand-picked repertoire of distinctly diverse international compositions and thus showcases his versatility.
The CD features groundbreaking masterpieces by Honegger, Sutermeister, Martinů, Takemitsu as well as the important and emotionally charged piece by Hindemith, the Sonate for trumpet and piano, a somber reminder of the "Entartete Kunst". New works by Slovene composers, however, present a special treat for classical-music lovers as well as contemporary-music enthusiasts. Reflections by young composer Nina Šenk stems from a modernistic compositional approach and delves into new explorations of the array of sounds and timbres that emerge from the now emancipated instrument – the trumpet.
