We cannot hide the enthusiasm when listening to Big Bug, a debut album by duo Darla Smoking, formed by electronic producer Nac and drummer Brgs.
Despite its radical un-homeliness and the commitment to postmodern cosmopolitanism that exceeds all borders and territories, Big Bug is a pretty imaginative product, especially in regard to the local community of electronic and dub enthusiasts, and opens up a space for reflection on the creativity in a given genre.
The music of the Darla Smoking, which could originate from any part of the world, shows a deep knowledge of the local context, its potentials and, above all, a number of blind spots. With this in mind, we can place it at the forefront of the dub sound here and now; the sound that was perhaps not expecting such a push.
