Kristijan Krajnčan - DrummingCellist

Although Kristijan Krajnčan is known primarily as a drummer (KK Contemporary Jazz Ensemble, Acropolis Quartet), his musical career began at the age of five when he took up the cello. Half a decade later he started playing drums. After moving to Netherlands, he graduated jazz drums at the Conservatory in Groningen and obtained Masters in Composing for Film at the Amsterdam Conservatory.
Krajnčan’s solo debut DrummingCellist is a step forward in placing the cello in the jazz environment, although most of the album consists of classical pieces. He faces Bach in Pärt, as well as his original compositions, through bold interpretations of drums and cello.
The playing is intense, experienced, inspired, with a great sense of nuancing and internal dynamics. Compositions feel like a hypnotic vortex, sucking in the listener. This is an album that ECM would be very happy to call its own.
