Tao G. Vrhovec Sambolec has been studying space and surfaces for many years, observing them through sound. His new album Outlines, released for Berlin based record label Errant Bodies, challenges our perceptions of shallows.
What is more, Samobolec reinvents the meaning of shallows and shows that it is fundamental and constructive, somewhere far away yet at the same time right here on the surface.
The artist is not interested in the sound of "just anything," but the exact space that in this context needs to be understood as a line of contact between the surfaces and as ripples created by it.
In this sense, his work should be acknowledged as an important contribution to the cultivation of listening as well as recognizing and understanding our own involvement in sound, which cannot be ignored.
