Mia Žnidarič - Z dotikom

In celebration of her 30-year career, the »first lady« of Slovene jazz, singer Mia Žnidarič, released a new album, demonstrating all her musical expressions. The new album Z dotikom/With feeling contains some jazz standards and some reworked compositions, all of which strive to capture the essence of the originals.
There are songs on the album which take one's breath away, highlighting the finest trait of the Žnidarič Klink duo, the fusion of Slovene poetry and American folk music with Joni Mitchell as its central representative. Among many jazz arrangements, a Slovenian folk song Zrelo je žito (The wheat is ripe) stands out with its contrasting melancholy mood. The song Ne vem, če veš (I don't know if you know) adds still a different dimension to the album with the characteristic pianistic passages by Steve Klink, author of so many timeless melodies. He is accompanied by his German trio, composed of Klink, double bass Volker Heinze and drummer Marcus Rieck. In some instances the trio is joined by clarinetist and saxophone player François de Ribaupierre.
Dekleva's poem Po vetru čas, po času veter (After wind comes time, after time, wind) particularly convincingly conveys in its stark message »I am water in thought, mandala in soul« the emotionality, melancholy and Weltschmerz of jazz singing and life in general, to which Mia's warm, slightly undulating voice adds additional depth.
The music featured on this album awakens a nostalgic feeling and offers evergreen, classic melodies.
